Day 01/ Sunday / Delhi - Jodhpur
Departure: 18:30 hrs

Depart Delhi for Jodhpur. Dinner and overnight stay on board.

Day 02/ Monday / Jodhpur - Udaipur

Breakfast on board. Arrive at Jodhpur post - breakfast and head out for a morning sightseeing tour of the ‘blue city’– the gateway to the desert beyond, and home of the valiant Rathores of Marwar. Visit the Fort, built on a hill on the advice of a hermit, which overlooks the city like a muscular sentinel. Inside the Fort are a number of palaces added by successive rulers; as well as their cenotaphs which are imposing and architecturally remarkable. Proceed for lunch at a hotel and then board Royal Rajasthan on Wheels for your onward journey to Udaipur. Dinner & overnight stay on board.

Day 03/ Tuesday / Udaipur - Chittaurgarh - Sawai Madhopur

Arrive in Udaipur in the morning and head out for breakfast at a hotel, followed by a sightseeing tour of the city. First on the agenda is the City Palace where you will marvel at rooms with mirrored walls and ivory doors, coloured glass windows and inlaid marble balconies. Also visit the lovely Sahelion-ki- Bari Gardens; the Jagdish Temple; and the local folk museum. After lunch at a hotel, enjoy a boat ride on Lake Pichola before returning to Royal Rajasthan on Wheels. Later visit Chittorgarh. There is no place in Rajasthan with a history more romantic than that of Chittorgarh; the centre of Rajput resistance against Mughal rule. Here, you will enjoy a Sound and Light show at the Fort accompanied by evening tea, followed by dinner at a hotel. Overnight stay on board.

Day 4/ Wednesday / Sawai Madhopur - Jaipur - Khajuraho

Arrive in Sawai Madhopur in the early hours of the morning and proceed for a safari to the Ranthambore Wildlife Sanctuary, which extends over an area of 392 sq kms of thick forests. The place abounds in scenic beauty and offers requisite refuge for both the carnivora and herbivora. The Tiger and Leopard are the main predators found in this reserve, besides various other animals. The numerous valleys and flat hill tops form picturesque surroundings to the 13th century historical Ranthambore Fort. After breakfast at a hotel, return to Royal Rajasthan on Wheels to move onwards to Jaipur.

Morning excursion to Amber Fort. Make your ascent to the palace fortress on a gaily caparisoned elephant’s back. Tour the chambers and hallways of the palace which are famous for the excellence of their design and decoration. Afternoon tour of Jaipur known as "The Pink City of Rajasthan" Visit the unique Jantar Mantar Observatory, which was built in the 1700's, yet even today still looks futuristic and almost surrealistic. Then, visit the City Palace and its Museum, and the Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Winds. Return to train for tea after which you can enjoy a drive through Jaipur by night followed by dinner at a Hotel. Return to the train as it proceeds to its next destination - Khajuraho. Overnight stay on board.

Day 5/ Thursday / Khajuraho - Varanasi

Arrive in Khajuraho and after breakfast on board, visit the Eastern group of temples which consists of three Hindu and three Jain temples. Their proximity attests to the religious tolerance of the times in general and of the Chandela rulers in particular. After lunch, visit the most important and fascinating Western group of temples. The temples of Khajuraho have been declared a 'world heritage' site by UNESCO in order to preserve the rich legacy of architecture, bequeathed to future generations by the Kings of the Chandela dynasty. These temples are famous for their intricate sculptures and erotic carvings that are one of the outstanding achievements of Indian art.

Day 6/ Friday / Varanasi - Agra

Arrive in Varanasi and take an early morning boat ride on the sacred river Ganges to watch the day break over the horizon and bathe the Ghats in its warm glow. Watching the pilgrims take their ritual bath in this holy river and performing their morning prayers is to witness the living traditions of one of the world's oldest and most important religions. Then, proceed to a hotel for Breakfast after which you can visit some of the Hindu temples that line the riverfront. You can also explore the narrow lanes and bazaars full of shops selling, among other things, the world famous Benaras Silks. Return to the train for lunch. In the afternoon, visit Sarnath, five miles out of Varanasi and one of the holiest Buddhist sites in the world, where Buddha preached his first Sermon in 590 B.C. Here you will see the ruins of a once flourishing Buddhist monastery and then visit a fine Archaeological Museum which houses an excellent collection of Buddhist art and sculptures found at the site. (The museum is closed on Fridays). Return to Royal Rajasthan on Wheels for Dinner & Overnight stay on board while the train moves onwards to Agra.

Day 7/ Saturday / Agra - Delhi

Arrive Agra. Enjoy your breakfast on board and proceed for a sightseeing tour of Agra city, visiting the most perfect architectural monument in the world -The Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal is the mausoleum of Empress Mumtaz Mahal, the beloved spouse of Shah Jahan, who died in 1630. This monument to eternal love is remarkable for its perfect proportion and rich pietra dura, with minute details executed with great skill. The building, often called "a dream in marble" is said to have taken at least 22 years (1631-1653) to build. The excursion is followed by dinner at a hotel. Then, return to Royal Rajasthan on Wheels for your last night on board as the train moves towards Delhi.

Day 8/ Sunday / Arrive Delhi

Arrive Delhi. Dis-embark after breakfast on board.
